Bowling is great fun for all the family but when you can’t get to a lane you don’t have to miss out on the action, thanks to Ultimate Bowling Fighter.
Bizarrely, this Ultimate Bowling Fighter adopts a kind-of Street Fighter style approach to the sport. You choose from four characters from around the World and must travel the globe to battle it out against the others to be crowned kingpin.
The graphics in Ultimate Bowling Fighter are colorful and well drawn, although if you’re looking for a realistic bowling sim you’ll probably get annoyed by the silly animations and wacky sound effects.
Playing Ultimate Bowling Fighter is a breeze and is done using a gauge to control direction and power. With three game modes to choose from (Solo, Tournament and Multiplayer) Ultimate Bowling Fighter will have you gripped for quite some time.
As far as mobile arcade bowling sims go, Ultimate Bowling Fighter is probably the best you’ll find.

When I first started to access newsgroups on my Mac, I found that sometimes, after a binary download was complete, I’d be left with various .RAR files and at least a couple of .PAR or .PAR2 files too. A quick Google search for how to work with PAR files led me to the excellent MacPAR deLuxe, a free, simple and easy-to-use utility for Macs and PAR/PAR2 files.
MacPAR deLuxe works extremely well in its main function: analyzing and joining large archive files that have been downloaded from Internet newsgroups. Simply right-click a PAR file in Finder and open it with MacPAR deLuxe. The program will immediately start analyzing the PAR file and checking that you have all the necessary constituent parts to rebuild the original file, generally a RAR compressed archive.
After checking that you have all the correct files, MacPAR Deluxe starts the process of joining them together. This doesn’t take much time at all (in fact, the process has become even quicker recently on Intel based Macs). As soon as the joining process is done, the program starts extracting the contents of the compressed file. What’s more, MacPAR Deluxe can even repair and recover some problematic archive files.
Another feature of MacPAR deLuxe is is PAR creation. Simply select (or drag and drop) the files you’re planning to upload to your favorite newsgroup and MacPAR deLuxe produces the PAR file for you.
If you’re working with newsgroup binaries on a Mac, MacPAR deLuxe is a truly essential piece of software. It’s simple, uncluttered, clear but most importantly: it works!

With the multiplication of Apple devices, which allow you to enjoy your media pretty much anywhere, you need to be able to convert and play your media files to any format. Roxio Crunch lets you do just this. Most users will probably be interested in converting unprotected DVDs and VIDEO_TS files to play on their Apple TVs or iPods, but Crunch also allows you to make video files playable on Sony PSP, DivX or 3GP formats. Just drag and drop any video file on the interface to convert it. Roxio Crunch has custom settings to quickly find the format you need.
More advanced users will be disappointed that Roxio Crunch does not actually allow you to convert encrypted DVDs. In terms of performances, Roxio Crunch is on par with similar applications, which means that some users might prefer going with free alternatives instead, like HandBrake or MacTheRipper. Similarly, converting media files to the iPod format is not exclusive to Roxio Crunch as you can easily do that with iTunes or QuickTime.
One the whole, Roxio Crunch is a good tool to convert a wide variety of media files to any format. While some users will be frustrated by the lack of advanced features, a simple drag and drop interface and DVD conversion make this an attractive Mac application.
Try out Roxio Crunch if you’re looking for a simple tool to play your media on any support.

Reelbean offers you a converter, an exporter and a media player all in one friendly interface.
Converting movies is a very common thing to do nowadays, especially with all the different devices you can play a video on. The video iPod in particular has been extremely successful, given how easy it makes it store and watch videos anywhere.
If you are the lucky owner of such a device then you surely have had to convert videos to play them properly on it. It can be a little difficult to find the right application to do the job though. We like Reelbean, because it lets you convert and export in many format, including the iPod friendly MPEG4 and 3GPP for other mobile devices. The process is easy and fairly quick.
Reelbean doesn’t limit itself to converting though, and since it handles so many formats, you can also preview and play them from it. Video quality is good and you can use the slider at the bottom to move forward and backwards in the movie. Reelbean also plays any streaming media.
The limitations in the trial version are the only things that we found disappointing. You won’t be able to convert, extract or export videos, so you’re pretty much left with the playback functions of the software.
Despite the limitations in the trial version, Reelbean is an excellent application to convert, export and play all sorts of video formats.

FlexCal, previously known as FlexTD, is a preference pane item that allows you to quickly enter todos and events in your iCal.
The application is activated via a hotkey, which you can set. Then all you need to do is type in your note, select the calendar it applies to, a priority level and the relevant dates.
The interface is clear and well designed, making it very easy to type in new entries.
FlexCal makes your calendar very easily accessible and avoids you wasting time having to open up iCal every time you come up with a new idea. Being a preference pane item, it doesn’t take much space in your Mac yet can still be called up every time you need it.
If you find that you very often work with iCal, yet get tired of opening and closing the application just for writing up to-dos and new events then FlexCal should come in handy.

Indigo can literally control and automate all processes in your home. HAL 9000 anyone?
To be honest Indigo isn’t as frightening as the artificial intelligence from 2001: A Space Odyssey. The program can actually become quite useful, if you have the patience to learn how to use it, and like any true geek, dream of controlling every switch in your home from your Mac.
Via the client/server architecture, you can gain remote access to devices in your home like lights, alarms or computers. You’ll certainly need to have a good level of knowledge to learn how to establish connection between devices.
From Indigo’s interface, it’s fairly easy to know what actions to trigger, set launch times and dates and even organize actions by groups. The separate log window also ensures you always have a record of what actions you performed. An added plus: Indigo comes with a widget to control your home from your Dashboard
If you have enough technological skills, Indigo can enable you to automate hardware in your home all from the comfort of your Mac.

Scanning your hard drive periodically is a good way of knowing how much space files are taking and deciding on what to keep and what to trash. Baseline combines tools to scan your disk with features to act upon cumbersome files. We’ve found the program to scan a disk fairly quickly, although that can also depend on the size of your hard drive and what files you’ve got stored up. We quite liked being able to save baselines, comparing in time what has been added and removed. Leopard users will probably be unimpressed though as they can do exactly the same thing with Time Machine.
After scanning your hard disk you can act upon those bothersome files. Depending on your needs, Baseline lets you compress, archive or delete these. Those functions are directly accessible from the interface, sparring your the burden of having to open up a separate application.
Baseline not only lets you scan your hard disk from cumbersome files, but also allows you to act upon these. A handy application to have around.
